Labor Day Weekend

We arrived in Heber City Friday afternoon. Ross had plenty of help to pour cement. I took the opportunity to go to the school where Holly teaches and drop in on her class for an hour. She teaches third grade and it brought back those special feelings of a time gone by when I taught at Sally Mauro Elementary. She has 30 students and is doing a great job.

I was in charge of dinner and since the "concrete crew" was growing by the hour, I left the school and got to work making green salad and spaghetti in Holly's kitchen. After dinner we put up tents in the back yard, not because there wasn't enough floor space mind you, Ross and Holly's house is huge, we just wanted to sleep out. There were around 35 people there off and on all weekend. Ross and Holly's family made us feel very welcome and we had a great time. The cement only got a few footprints in it but that made for great memories, right Ross?

Saturday morning some of the guys went boating, while some of us went to Swiss Days in Midway, but all of us met back at the house for a BBQ in the afternoon. All of our family was there except Trevor, Brittany and Sadie. We're glad Trevor will be home next week (cause for more celebrating together!) It was Matt and Kaymie's first anniversary and after dinner that evening we made Pizzookies to celebrate with them. They left early Sunday morning to meet his family at their cabin in Wyoming.

Most of the company left Saturday evening but you know Gregg and I . . . we hang around to make sure we don't miss anything! We went to church Sunday morning. It was fast Sunday so we were releaved not to have to fix another meal. It seems we cooked and cleaned up the kitchen a hundred times during the past couple of days. After church we had another BBQ. We packed up and drove to Orem to visit Gregg's mother at Donnette's house which left only Grandma and Grandpa Hansen at Ross and Holly's. Donnette was busy fixing dinner and waiting for all of her family to arrive. We had a nice visit. From there we drove to Logan and stayed at Kaymie and Matt's house.

We got up early and rode our bikes to Jeff and Mandy's house to surprise the boys but it was all quiet there so we rode around the town of Mendon for a while. It was quite a chilly morning but the air was brisk and clean and when you are taking in the "awe" of such a beautiful place you don't mind the fact that you didn't bring a jacket with you. When we returned, Jeff's family was up and we had breakfast and got ready for the parade in the neighboring town of Wellsville. The weather was perfect by then. After the parade they do what is called the "Sham Battle" in the ball field by the elementary school. We watched a real live "Cowboys and Indians" shoot out! By the time we got back to Mendon it was time to head to Providence for Kenlie's birthday party.

Ryan and Brandy had a big blow-up bounce house that the kids had fun playing in. Brandy made a cute pink poodle birthday cake and sun flower cupcakes. Ryan helped the kids play Duck-Duck-Goose which was interesting. I think Navie and Kenlie were the only ones that knew the game but the rest caught on after a while. Kenlie was excited about the company, the refreshments, and the gifts. A friend gave her a little purse and she wore it over her shoulder the rest of the afternoon. Brittany brought Sadie up and it was good to see them again. They've had quite an eventful summer flying back and forth to be with Trevor while he is working out of state. After cake and ice cream Jeff helped Ryan roll the bounce house up and load it in the truck. We rode Ryan's four wheelers around the neighborhood and watched the kids ride bikes. (Navie can ride without training wheels.) Cedar was exploring everything in the yard. Asher wanted to come home with us but Jeff distracted him by taking him on another 4-wheeler ride and he wanted to know if they could follow Grandma and Grandpa to "their house."

We called Kiley, Amy, and Brady on our way home and they met us at Ruby River Steak House where we had dinner. (They have the best steak on the planet!) Even though we had seen them a couple of days earlier it was nice to get together again. Squeezing Ava before we left for home assured me that I would sleep well when we arrived home because I was able to hug all six of my grandchildren in one day!

I'm busy making caramel apples and food for the Labor Day weekend today. We are excited to spend some time with family at Ross and Holly's in Heber City where we'll attend Swiss Days in Midway and help Ross pour concrete and go boating on his EXTREMELY awesome boat. The caramel is ready so I must get to the kitchen. More later . . .

Today I read a book that motivated me. Not only did I set up a blog spot, I'm going to learn to text on my cell phone and I'm going to learn how to use my new camera and upload pictures so I can share them on my blog. I've decided it's not fun to stand by and let technology run away without you, so even though I'm behind in the race, I will catch up so I can run with the "big dogs!"
Oh my stars! I just created a blog spot. That was so easy. I'm wondering why I was so hesitant. I will study up on how it all works and make it better in the coming days.
